Meet Anthony Wilson
Future Cotton Groves Homeowner
Anthony Wilson was born in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in McKinney, Texas, from the age of eight. He began his amateur boxing career at the age of 14 through the Boys & Girls Club. He later joined the B & M Boxing Club of McKinney. While at B & M, his boxing reputation grew as Anthony was a two times Dallas Golden Gloves Champion (1990 & 1999) and Texas 1999 State Champion. Anthony won numerous amateur boxing championship titles, competing against top-rank amateur boxers like Larry O’Shields and Lamar Murphy.
After Anthony graduated from McKinney High School in 1993, he continued to box and turned professional in 2000. Professional boxing was altogether a different experience from amateur boxing. Anthony says he met many great people and had lots of fun, but ten years later, his boxing career was over. Then, a short three years after his professional boxing career finished, he was broke, in debt, lost his home, and divorced. Anthony had lost everything! He thanks God for a life change and now a second chance at homeownership. After five years of ‘getting it together, he has his credit, finances, and life back on track.
Anthony says that Habitat is an excellent program for himself and many like him who need and want a fresh start at homeownership. Anthony has been blessed with one handsome son Tykeylan, who is now 20 years of age. He says that Tykeylan has always displayed extraordinary athletic abilities and skills in football and boxing while growing up. He’s a recent graduate of Penn Foster High school, and he’s looking to enlist in the military.
Along with volunteering at Habitat as part of fulfilling the required sweat equity hours for new homeowners, he also works as a Notary with his company called Anthony’s Anytime Mobile Notary Services, serving Collin County. Having a home to call his own means freedom to Anthony, and he says he will be one of the proudest homeowners in Collin County.
