Home Repair

THE HOME REPAIR PROGRAM HAS THREE SUBCATEGORIES

The Habitat for Humanity of Collin County Home Repair Program is part of a nationwide effort through Habitat for Humanity to help low income homeowners maintain the exterior of their homes. This program is part of Habitat for Humanity International’s broader community development strategy. Groups of volunteers work alongside the homeowner to revitalize their home. Our Home Repair Program allows low-income homeowners to live independently by making home repairs affordable.

  • HOME PRESERVATION

Exterior work includes painting, patching, minor repair, landscaping, and replacing exterior building materials to maintain good or sound conditions.

  • WEATHERIZATION

Work done to improve the energy efficiency and indoor air quality of a structure. The scope of work of a Weatherization project is defined by a comprehensive energy audit and testing of the home upon completion and should include a homeowner education component.

  • CRITICAL HOME REPAIR

Extensive interior or exterior work was performed to address health and safety issues or code violations. Critical Home Repair includes such activities as a change to, or repair of, materials or components; a reconfiguration of space; a modification for accessibility; or installation or extension of plumbing, mechanical or electrical systems on an existing structure.

Quality Of Life And Neighberhoods

Partnering with families to improve existing homes, quality of life, and neighborhoods.

Selection

Qualifying homeowners partner with us to externally rehab their homes, which have fallen into disrepair, and often into code citations, loss of homeowners insurance, loss of equity, and ultimately could face mortgage foreclosure. Projects range from minor scrape-and-paint work to full exterior rehabs, including roof replacements. Following repairs, these Habitat families have safer, more accessible, healthier, energy-efficient, and/or more secure homes.

Habitat Collin County will select a homeowner who has:

  • Demonstrated financial need and a willingness to partner with the program. Although Habitat has a set income level for selected families, this number is flexible.

  • Homeowners with an existing mortgage must have no outstanding payments, and they must have up-to-date homeowner’s insurance and taxes.

How It Works:

  • Homeowners will be presented with a scope of work outline before the project begins.

  • An affordable cost will then be agreed upon and repaid by the homeowner at a loan rate based on income.

  • Payments will be set at an affordable amount.

STRENGTH-STABILITY-INDEPENDENCE

With your support, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability, and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and for their families.
